UMB Community Engagement Center

Help the UMB Community Engagement Center (CEC) touch lives and change the trajectory of children and families growing up in poverty and vulnerable situations in West Baltimore.


UPDATE: The Board of Trustees of the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation has generously established a $25,000 match challenge to benefit the CEC. Between now and December 31, 2017, all gifts to the CEC fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to the committed amount.

Giving opportunities for a number of gift sizes are listed below. Please take this opportunity to double the impact of your gift and support the valuable work the CEC is doing in the community.


Giving Opportunities


Your gift of $1,500 funds:

  • one of CEC's monthly community lunches, where more than 120 residents socialize and discuss ways to improve the CEC.

Your gift of $500 funds:

  • a new section in the Pop! Farm
  • one month of Zumba or line dancing instruction for up to 45 residents
  • chicken, burgers, hot dogs, buns, and fixings for summer neighborhood cookout
  • transportation on family field trips
  • 20 tickets to the Maryland Science Center
  • 35 tickets to the Maryland Zoo

Your gift of $100 to $150 funds:

  • mulch and gardening tools for the Pop! Farm
  • 20 to 30 bags of groceries or 12 to 18 bags of fresh produce from the Baltimore Gift Economy or Hungry Harvest food programs for local families
  • sports equipment and jump-ropes for organized recreation

Your gift of $100 funds:

  • supplies for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) after-school program for middle school students
  • a semester's worth of journals, markers, crayons, stickers, and prizes for Girl Talk, a storytelling program for elementary school girls
  • fresh fruit salad for monthly luncheon dessert
  • child-sized rocking chairs for playroom

Your gift of $50 funds:

  • card and board games for the after-school program
  • journals, stickers, and markers for storytelling programs for elementary school children
  • pizza and supplies for a Teen Advisory Council meeting
  • LEGOs and other building blocks for the after-school program

Your gift of $25 to $50 funds:

  • 10 veggie plants for the Pop! Farm, which provides food, pretty flowers, and camaraderie for the Poppleton community
  • one weekly healthy snack for children in the after-school program

Your gift of $25 funds:

  • five bags of groceries or three bags of fresh produce from the Baltimore Gift Economy or Hungry Harvest food programs for needy families
  • paint, poster board, and other art supplies for the after-school program
  • snacks and supplies for one session of Family Saturdays, morning exercise program for parents and children
  • a platter of cookies and fruits for women's monthly tea party/support group

Your gift of $15 funds:

  • five new coloring books and boxes of crayons for the after-school program

Your gift of $5 to $20 funds:

  • increments of a "$5 share" for community members to use to purchase healthy food at the CEC's organic market
